Can someone from http://lists.php.net please explain to Danny Grainger from https://www.microscripts.info admin@microscripts.info that PHP 5.2.8. is compatible PHP4 ? I've already bought and paid for 5 of his scripts, that he is refusing to upload to my server for this reason : ( PHP 5.2.8. is not compatible PHP4 ) and he is trying to force me to move over to his server, and he is refusing to refund my money ? i feel as though I'm being held hostage by this scam artist, who's making it harder each day, for honest people and companies to do business via the internet:( https://www.microscripts.info/store/pages/Hosting-Requirements.html http://cavecreek.net support wrote : ( general answer ) Russ, In regards to the script requirements found here: https://www.microscripts.info/store/pages/Hosting-Requirements.html It's very difficult to tell exactly *what* is needed. The page says PHP4 for greater - You currently have PHP 5.2.8. I will answer the remaining questions you asked inline below, as well as put some comments at the end of everything. question from Russ : ( question # 1 ) Can my super support cave-creek crew tell me the difference between PHP4 and PHP 5.2.3 ? http://cavecreek.net support answer to ( answer # 1 ) PHP 5 is the current PHP version that is actively updated and supported. There is additional functionality within the design. Ideally, PHP5 and PHP4 are compatible, but it depends on the code (ie, if its written properly to not care about what version of PHP runs it) More information can be found at www.php.net ( Russ question # 2 ) and if the PHP 5.2.3 will or will not work ? http://cavecreek.net support answer to ( answer # 2 ) As stated above, it should work - but it's dependent on the code. See comments at the end for more info. ( Russ question # 3 ) and if it won't work ? tell me the process to get PHP4 installed ? http://cavecreek.net support answer to ( answer # 3 ) We would downgrade to PHP 4.x, but this may lead to security risks running an older version of PHP. Additionally, PHP 4.x has not been supported for over a year and there are no patches/updates/fixes for any problems that occur from it. ( Russ question # 4 ) and if my cave-creek server meets their requirements link below ? http://cavecreek.net support answer to ( answer # 4 ) That page doesn't really list the requirements other than saying: "all servers must be linux and have atleast php 4.x MySql 4.x." Which, if that is the case, exceeds what is required. ( Danny Grainger ) from http://microscripts.info said the following : PHP 5.2.3 is not PHP4 cavecreek will have the control to change this, We are not going to tell you are requirements are not met if they are." http://cavecreek.net support answer to ( Danny Grainger from http://microscripts.info ) I am not sure what they are asking or even saying. Are they saying that they require PHP 4 to work, which is not what the requirements page says? What additional information are you they telling you/us? http://cavecreek.net support final response : In general, what is this script going to do for you? While we cannot say what you should do, I'd like to avoid us having to troubleshoot their scripts if you do purchase them, as it states on their requirements page that its not *their* responsibility due to "incompatible hosting" whatever they mean by that. I hope that clears up everything so far. Let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks.
