No, that's a real MySQL error message. It means that -- get this --
you didn't specify a database to use. mysql_select_db() is the
function. Check the manual, or go through the steps in the book again
for creating a connection, selecting a database, and issuing queries
before you get all crazy with authentication and what not.
Or just check your spelling.
