Compiling PHP4 (Win32) + Interbase ?

Could somebody give me some guidelines on how to add Interbase support to
PHP4 under Win32 ? I have the source code for PHP4 as module on Apache
1.3.12 (via opensa). It includes the ext/interbase directory, but it is not
configured and compiled in the binaries I have.
General question : do I need to recompile all of PHP4 after some makefile
changes to do that ?
Or is it possible to dynamically add external functions (like the ibase_
functions) at runtime ?
