I've got a similar problem.. still not resolved it...
Worked around it by setting an ODBC up to the SQLServer DB you need/went,
and then use PHP's Unified ODBC functions and it's fine.

Nicole,
It sounds like the mssql_connect() function may not be returning a valid
resourse link. Did you check that? A couple of other things you might want
to check.
Although it should work, mssql_pconnect won't work if you have PHP in cgi
mode. You have to have PHP in isapi mode. However isapi isn't stable, so you
really can't use it anyway.
Lastly, sa give you permissions to the master database by default login, so
you might have to switch dbs before doing anything.
I can say that it work fine as I have the exact configuration that you do.
Send your code and I'd be happy to help you.

Subject: [PHP-WIN] Help w/ SQL Server 2k install for connecting with PHP
Hi,
I just setup SQL Server 2k on my machine (XPpro) and I am trying to connect
to the database I set up .. with PHP but I am getting this errror:
Warning: MS SQL message: Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Not associated
with a trusted SQL Server connection. (severity 14) in
c:\apache\htdocs\iabol_quebecor\dbcon.php on line 2
Warning: MS SQL: Unable to connect to server: aeon in
c:\apache\htdocs\iabol_quebecor\dbcon.php on line 2
Can't connect to AEON
Now, I set up the standard user as sa with blank password on my machine for
testing but it is not working. I am not incredibly savvy with SQL Server as
I should be by now. I haven't worked with it in a couple months. So, does
anyone have an idea what I need to do to the SQL Server configuration to get
it working? The agent is running, mssql.dll is enabled in php.ini, etc. It
must be some security setting I need to fix. Any suggestions??
Many thanks!
Nicole
