Nicole, It sounds like the mssql_connect() function may not be returning a valid resourse link. Did you check that? A couple of other things you might want to check. Although it should work, mssql_pconnect won't work if you have PHP in cgi mode. You have to have PHP in isapi mode. However isapi isn't stable, so you really can't use it anyway. Lastly, sa give you permissions to the master database by default login, so you might have to switch dbs before doing anything. I can say that it work fine as I have the exact configuration that you do.
