Dumping the contents of a node

I'm using php version 4.2.3/IIS 5.0 and am trying to dump the contents of a node; I need the tags and vaules. So far, everything I've tried has failed, including what I found in the user notes for the document and node classes. Apparently, the dump_node method is no longer a member of the node class.
