okay,
i feel like adding a name search routing. typical adding a user and searching if a similar sounding name exists type routine. so i decided to cheat and use mysql's soundex function. that seems to be okay. then i searched and found php's LEVENSHTEIN and METAPHONE functions. wow. they seem to be better.
now, being the "paranoid" person that i am, would using mysql's SOUNDEX (okay, i saw php has one too) be not as accurate as finding similar if not same names, VERSUS the time taken for the server overhead??? i mean if i had a million names, (i only have 200 so that's not a big enough sample), would YOU mysql it or php it?
let's take the server's hardware / o/s specs out of the question...
thanks...
