I just checked and ASP is able to access the data beyond 256. Can PHP use ADO? If so Should I use
ADO?

You can call it a bug, but it is caused by limitations in DBLib, provided by Microsoft. This library
has not been updated since SQL Server 6.0 !
Iøm working on a solution to use FreeTDS on Win32. Until I have a working solution, you can avoid
using (var)char columns greater than 256.
