First of all you have to see if the htpasswd has the apropiete rights to be executed by the which ever user apache is running as. The easyest way to do that is from command line with to view htpasswd informations: ls -la /usr/local/apache/bin/htpasswd -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 31464 Oct 23 2002 to see which user is running apache: ps aux|grep httpd web 19909 1.0 1.8 28492 19140 ? S 12:26 0:28 /usr/sbin/httpd - (in our case web) then if you don't know to read this infos and you have the root password login as the user the apache is running and try running a lien generated in php by hand and see everything there (why fails) -- ------------------------------------------------- Cristian MARIN InterAKT Online (www.interakt.ro) cristic@interakt.ro "Guru P Chaturvedi" <bangboy2k2@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:20030518221521.11789.qmail@pb1.pair.com... hi, i am not able to execute the htpasswd command from a PHP file. the exec function returns 1. but file_exists("/usr/local/apache/bin/htpasswd") returns true. the file exits. also i am passing proper parameters... what could be the problem? can anyone help me in this regard please... with Warm Regards, Guru
