File Upload ???

For uploading image files from a form (file upload), do I use fopen, fread, and fwrite? When I do the server looks on its own hard drive for the image file and chunks because it is not found, but a 0KB file is written (whatever that is?). I saw the PHP Manual entry for File-Upload (http://www.php.net/manual/html/feature-fileupload.html) but I'm not sure what I am supposed to do different to have PHP upload the file from the clients machine when the form is being filled out on a machine other than the server?
