Hi Lee Davis,
I've tested the mail() function on PHP 4.02 on Windows 2000 Server and it
works fine.
I noticed that if I do not have an SMTP server running locally, and I used
localhost as SMTP,
it will give an "Failed to Connect" error.
I could not reproduce your "unknown" error.
Have you written a one-line script to test the mail() function. (Your error
message below suggests line 31)
Also did you recompile PHP from the open source instead of using the binary
distribution release.
