I personnaly use a WinNT as a intranet production server.
Apache 1.3.12, Php as a CGI and Mysql.
It works fine, even if not really speedy (not so important for me as it's an
intranet server) till you don't have many connections.
Beside, there's something you must know : due to OS limitations, there's a
limit of 64 threads by application -> 64 connections max. by apache
instance. And when there are many instances, be care of stability !!! It's
the same for PHP as a CGI, if there are more than 64 threads, don't know how
it will react.
So if you : - like risk,
- have a full access to your server,
- know well how to administer WinNT,
- have a lot of time and aspirin,
- have a "RESET" switch on the server,
you can use it, but NOT ON THE WEB ! It's not secured, not (really) stable
and won't support high load.
If you don't, use a Linux (Debian is my prefered) of FreeBSD box.
