php pages stall when testing

my config is Win98 - PHP4.02 - Apache 1.3.12
I have just set everything up and configured apache's httpd.conf
When i start the server and try running a test page (Hello World, phpinfo, etc).... the pages starts
loading according to the progress
monitor at the bottom of Internet Explorer.... but goes SUPER slow.... and then stops halfway.... as
if stalled.
Anyone have this experience? I have no clue what might be causing it... i followed the set up
instructions at www.webmonkey.com
