I had the same problem.. I had register_globals = On and track_vars is
always on as of version 4.0.3 and I still had this problem.
If fixed it by setting error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE; (turning off
notice reporting)
i am new to PHP, maybe this is a bad thing to do?

Fabiano,
1) This is most likely not a bug.
2) This is NOT a difference between v3.0, v4.0.0, and v4.0.3
3) This IS most likely just a difference in your php.ini settings between
the 3 versions/servers.
If you want to automatically access form(cgi) variables by their variable
name in a php script, then you have to make sure that both track_vars and
register_globals are set to On in you php.ini. Most likely, these were set
to On in both your v3 php3.ini and in the php.ini on your linux server.
Just for everybody's edification, this question gets asked A LOT, so it's
recommended people search the list archive to check for commonly
asked/answered questions.
