The end of this problem was the addition of the longreadlen statement after
the SQL call.
$cur=odbc_exec ($cnx, "SQL STATEMENT");
odbc_longreadlen($cur, 8000);
This basically defines the maximum length of each field pulled by the cursor
from the database.
