Edit report at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=45317&edit=1 ID: 45317 Updated by: cmb@php.net Reported by: lester at lsces dot co dot uk Summary: Disable mysqlnd in core if mysql is not required Status: Open Type: Feature/Change Request -Package: Windows Installer +Package: *Configuration Issues Operating System: Windows PHP Version: 5.3CVS-2008-06-19 (snap) Block user comment: N Private report: N New Comment: Time flies, and there are no more Windows installers (.msi) delivered anymore; therefore I'm changing the package to configuration issues. Anyhow, as of PHP 5.3 the MySQL Native Driver is enabled by default on Windows. As I understand it, this is done because mysqlnd can't be built as DLL, so enabling/disabling it requires building of PHP. Many developers require the driver, so it makes sense to enable it by default. For those who don't, the overhead seems to be bearable. Previous Comments: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2008-06-19 15:27:21] lester at lsces dot co dot uk Description: ------------ It was understood that mysqlnd would not be enabled by default in 5.3. As far as I am aware it is only required if MySQL is being used and many sites nowadays use many of the other alternatives, so enabling a third database should not be forced on us. SQLite is the built in default and a second database should be our own choice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Edit this bug report at https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=45317&edit=1
