I haven't looked at the code but it is kind of weird that Jeroen is getting this kind of criticism right now after he sent his game plan to php-dev a few times. Couldn't you think of it then?
It must be extremely frustrating to receive this now after he's worked on it so hard.
Of course if there are technical problems they should be resolved. I'm just stating this about the non-technical aspect of what happened.
