Tyson, ODBC does not inherently have performance drawbacks. ODBC is one layer, and the Native connection is one layer. If done properly, ODBC replace the native layer and speaks directly to the CLI of the database. Our ODBC for instance is faster than native, sometimes quite a bit faster. The ODBC-PHP HOWTO is at www.iodbc.org. It describes the difference between driver managers and drivers, and gives you some options. Hope this helps!
