Ron,
There's no point using ODBC connections on Windows because you have to have
Oracle configured just as you would for a straigt SQL*net / OCI connection
(because ODBC uses SQL*Net).
Can you access the Oracle DB from outside of PHP, say from MS Query? Or
SQL*Plus?
If not you havent set up your tnsnames.ora file.
If you can then try using the PHP binaries at www.php4win.de
I have with previous versions (i havent verified this with their latest
release) you need to use a Oracle 8.1.* client. I assume because they
compiled against a 8.1 version. This may have changed. You can get it all
working (yes connection to a remote 7.3.x) with OCI if you download the
php4win distro and a 8.1.6 server package from technet.oracle.com You cant
download the Oracle 8.1.6 client individually unless you have the Oracle
Installer... you dont get the Oracle Installer unless you have a existing
version of 8.1.x
But you never know php4win may now work with older versions of SQL*Net and
OCI.
Good luck
mn

Subject: ODBC Connection To ORACLE
I'm running PHP on a WinNT and Netscape Server using the CGI version of php.
So far I'm unable to make an ODBC connection to our Oracle DB using the
Oracle ODBC 73 or 73.2.5 drivers or the MS Oracle driver.
Using the MS driver I receive the error "Warning: SQL error:
[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve
service name, SQL state 08001 in SQLConnect"
Using the Oracle 73.2.5 driver I receive the error "Warning: SQL error:
[Oracle][ODBC Oracle Driver][Oracle OCI]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve
service name., SQL state S1000 in SQLConnect".
Using the Oracle 73 driver I receive the error "Warning: SQL error:
[Oracle][ODBC Oracle Driver][Oracle OCI]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve
service name., SQL state S1000 in SQLConnect".
I am setting (putenv()) the ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, and TNS_ADMIN variables
before issuing the connection. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Ron Woods
