A particular apache child will return an invalid connection number error out of ora_open, thereafter, all requests by that child which require connectivity to that oracle instance will throw the same error. When the child exits after it's MaxRequests have been satisfied (or if it is killed by hand) then evrything is quite again. This phenomena appears mainly (though not exclusively) under periods of high traffic. This error is seen across over 40 machines, and is not tied to any particular chunk of code. "Thies C.
