I have previosuly tried compiling both php3 and 4 with --enable-versioning, I think using 3.0.17 and 4.0.3, and when I specified in httpd.conf to load both modules apache would fail due to multiple defined referneces or something in the two modules. I ended up having to install php4 as a cgi application which I ended up removing.
