I think I understand what the problem is. SG(request_info).path_translated is quite a mess right now.
We have init_request_info(SLS_C); right at startup which sets it and right at the end it sets it to NULL. We have some place which estrdup() it (which is the way it should be) and some places which make it point to non estrdup()'ed memory. That must be what is happening to you and you are efree()'ing non-estrdup()'ed memory.
Right now the code looks like quite a mess. It needs to be thoroughly looked through.
No quick patch coming up but this issue needs to be thoroughly addressed before 4.0.1.
Thanks!
Andi

Shane, Andi,--- Andi Gutmans <andi@zend.com> http://www.zend.com/this is useful information, I had worked out some of this, but not all - thanks. I'm pretty sure that 5044 is the same bug that I am suffering with(4939), the address is the same, and you can see from my appends about 4939, what info I had found about the failure.Since my last append, I have made zero progress. I am now trying to understand what is the difference between the debug_ts excuteables, and the release_ts executeables, as in my case if I compile the debug_ts, it works fine, and the release_ts falls over everytime. Also what might be different on my machine to Andi's machine for example, as it works o.k. for Andi. Best regards. . .
