Why you don't distribute PHP with Oracle libraries then ? ;-) Or pgsql at least, to support one real RDBMS off PHP distribution ? I'd argue that number of people who a) want to access MySQL database and b) don't have the client libraries already, is certainly much lower than all the other people using PHP. I do not say that there are no people who would be happy that PHP included bundled MySQL client. But I do think that the bundled library has no added value for vast majority of people, even those who actually use MySQL. Anyway, as you are the author, it's obviously your right to do whatever arbitrary desicion you like about PHP. Take this as ignorable random rant :) > Sounds to me like you should be submitting your patch to the MySQL > folks. That would be the correct place for this check. OK. It just works when PHP is compiled against MySQL's mysqlclient, I've checked it. Since what they distribute is okay, I don't see why should I send bug report to them. IMHO the default should probably be to use system's installed mysqlclient and use the builtin only when explicitly requested (like --with-mysql=builtin). But I'm equally happy with current state of things, so I don't really feel like needing the change :) Best regards, Jaromir -- Jaromir Dolecek <jdolecek@NetBSD.org> http://www.ics.muni.cz/~dolecek/ @@@@ Wanna a real operating system ?
