I'm all for this too. But this will require serious amount of work in

Actually I used makemaker coupld of times and still don't know exactly how
it works. I don't need to - I just write right incantations, and it
happens.

Many ways to do something is not a bad thing. The problem of Perl is that
there's only one good way of doing some things (like multi-dimensional
arrays) and it's pretty hard to do - or many ways which are hard.
