Are you trying to compile a thread-safe version? What are your compilation options? Oops, forgot the configure line, I reduced my usual configure line to the minimum: ./configure that's all, it fails on NetBSD 1.3.3, NetBSD 1.4.2 and Digital Unix 4.0.
