Hello Stig,

The existing XML support in PHP is very useful for things that are
completely unrelated with Web pages, like for example defining structure
data formats.
For instance, I have developed a XML based format for defining RDBMS
independent database schemas. I wrote a PHP based parser with the current
XML support to build the schema in memory and most importantly to validate
the data in its context. Then I use such parsed data structure to create
or update a database using RDBMS database independant classes.
Without expat based support in PHP, I would hardly be able to do this. So,
I don't think the current PHP XML support is that obsolete.

Right, but in my case I still need to keep the column and line numbers of
each parsed XML tag to let my parser class tell the user where any context
errors may be. I don't know, but I am afraid that mod_dav's code would
dump tag and data location information.
