Hey Jim,
I know one of the things Rasmus and I talked about with regards
to the new site design was to try and put the manual in
some sort of database structure, and maintain it through a web
interface. This would make it easier to maintain (especially
for us non-SGML folks), and would also mean that moving user-notes
into the release docs could be done in one or two mouse clicks.
Ditto for adding new entries.
Also, there would be a cron job or something that would create
the PHP3 files for the site when needed, and one that would
create the SGML files for the source tree.
As a prerequisite for this, I think we need to move the
documentation into it's own CVS tree. And change the structure
of the SGML files so that there is one function per file (i.e.
mysql_connect() has it's own .sgml file, instead of all the
MySQL functions being lumped together).
A seperate tree and seperate files will also make it easier if
people want to translate the docs into other languages.
Those are my thoughts. Rasmus can obviously correct me if
I've gotten something wrong.
