New Comment:
This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
Thank you for the report, and for helping us make our documentation
better.

Description:
------------
The documentation for xmlrpc_encode_request includes these two lines:
$response = xmlrpc_decode($file);
if (xmlrpc_is_fault($response)) {
xmlrpc_decode's result type is mixed. When it returns something that
is not an array, the following notice is thrown:
PHP Notice: xmlrpc_is_fault(): Array argument expected in <file> on
line <line>
In bug #40793, it was reasserted that this notice from
xmlrpc_is_fault() is by design. Thus, the example code must be wrong.
(I wouldn't expect that a proper example should throw notices.)
