The downloads from the php site are generally source code, for *nix. Can
you say whether you installed php as an Apache module or as a stand
alone cgi?
If it's the latter, you should find a file called php in your nominated
cgi-bin directory. You can delete that, and the ini file which is most
likely /usr/local/lib/php.ini (if you installed one). And of course the
directory where you unpacked the distribution can be deleted.
If it's an apache module, the story is a little more complex.
