Well you can check the archives, but the consensus seems to be that it is
better to escape out of html with your php. I use a combination of both - I
usually echo out form code for example, that won't be touched by designers, but
escape for other stuff. As for cpu usage, bare text goes straight to the
browser, so the php interpreter does not have to do that. Escaping is slightly
faster.
