When I originally wrote my PostgreSQL session handler, I entertained
the idea of using an abstracted database interface (such as PEAR's),
but for an operation as frequently used as session handler, I felt
that I'd rather use native functions than incur the OO abstraction
overhead.
I mean, once it's running, you really don't need the flexibility that
an abstracted interface offers, and it's almost trivial to adapt an
existing database-native handler to a new database anyway.
I'm not trying to discourage Daniel from doing to work; I almost
wrote the very same thing. I just wanted to share my thoughts and
conclusions on that approach.
