Two possibilites:
1. NFS (your server and clients have to handle file locking
properly)
2. Any DBMS which can talk over TCP/IP
The session module allows you to implement the storage
mechanism in PHP. Such user-level implementations can be
done for every DBMS which is supported by PHP.
