We have a game developer who's getting ready to create an online game
for us.
His background is in Visual Basic programming and he's used that to
create a succesful PC game with great reviews.
He wants to program his game in VB, using .dll's to integrate it into
the site. He's new to programming for the net and the VB method would be
the most comfortable for him.
Naturally, his leanings would make us look at running an NT system
possibly with IIS. That's the platform we're currently running on using
php3.
But when I think about loads and reliability, etc., I tend to think we
should be on a *nix system running Apache.
Is there anyway to convert the VB .dll's to something that would "run
native" in a Apache/Unix environment with PHP4?
I'd just like to be able to suggest some options to the programmer.
Thanks.
