About 2.400 individual users downloaded it. I can't say how many
effectively use it though.
Anyway, if you need database portability, Metabase is a good choice, in
many aspects better than Perl DBI. Not only it provides a way to develop
database applications that are portable between DBMS, but it also it
provides a means to design portable database schemas that you can install
and upgrade in any supported DBMS.
If some day you need to move between DBMS, you can have Metabase dump your
database contents in DBMS neutral format so you can re-install its contents
in a new DBMS without loss of data or type information.
The Sybase driver is not yet publically available but it is on the way. If
you want to be warned when a beta version will be available, just subscribe
to Metabase development mailing list by sending an empty message to
metabase-dev-subscribe@egroups.com or otherwise look in the list Web
archive here: http://www.egroups.com/group/metabase-dev
