Correct, but bandwidth isn't free. I may not have to answer them, but I do have to download them. So do thousands of other people. I'm not picking apart the semantics of your wording, but it does annoy me when someone essentially says "it works because it works". Perhaps so, in which case he should take a look at the vast wealth of example code available on the web. I'm not an elitist in any way, I'm encouraging newbies to try new things out. There's a difference between trying code out and trying to ask a question when the answer is right in from of your nose, however. Hate to burst your bubble, but 1) Google Groups isn't the only google service. 2) This question (and most other questions newbies have) has already been asked many times, so Google Groups already has it. I'm not saying no one should ask questions, I'm simply saying that they should try to find the answer on their own before asking. jpoz wrote:
If you don't want to, "answer a few thousand questions from newbies who ask OT questions and don't even try to find the answer themselves", then ignore the questions. You are not required to answer every question posed to the newsgroup. And if you want to pick apart the semantics of my wording, then go ahead. I choose to speak English and not nerd because most people will understand the English part, whereas non-nerds may have no idea what I'm talking about. Perhaps this person learns things better by doing, or "reverse engineering" the code that he sees. You are not the newsgroup police. If you don't like what you are seeing, turn the channel. It is elitists like you that discourage people from trying new things they don't understand. You want them to search google. Where does groups.google.com get it's information? From these newsgroups. ----- Original Message ----- From: Leif K-Brooks To: John Cc: php-general@lists.php.net Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 12:03 PM Subject: Re: [PHP] Anyone know how this would be done? Because rewarding bad behavior encourages it. I don't know about you, but I have much better things to do than answer a few thousand questions from newbies who ask OT questions and don't even try to find the answer themselves. You don't seem to understand exactly why the answer works, you simply know it does. It's not a 'target="_top" statment', it's setting the "target" property to "_top". It's not an <a href> tag, it's an <a> tag with a "href" property. What "PHP version"? PHP is server-side, therefor it can't open windows, check screen resolution, print, or use the client's toaster. It can do all of those things server-side (assuming the server has an attached toaster :)), but that would be of limited value except in very specific cases. John wrote: I don't understand you guys. You obviously know the answer, but instead of answering him, or ignoring the question all together, you give the guy crap. Perhaps next time you could say, "You do this, this and that. Next time try searching google". To answer the original question, in HTML to break out of frames you put a target="_top" statement in the <A href> tag. <a href=http://blah.com target="_top"> I assume the PHP version of this is similar. Is there a way that I can redirect so that the destination page takes over the entire frame, and not just show up in the right frameset?
This is not a PHP question.
