Rationalize it any way you want - but a 30 day trial's pretty generous.
Don't know about the EditPlus folks, but Ian Meade's livelihood depends on sales of UltraEdit, and he's done a good job revising and overhauling it.
Either one's worth the money, and we're talking pretty modest amounts.
