Having installed PHP/MySQl/Apache on YDL systems here, I can say it's not a piece of cake, but it's not horrid either. Do you already have MySQL installed? We found it necessary to download the source code tarballs for all three packages first. First configure and install MySQL (follow the directions at www.mysql.net), configure and install PHP (www.php.net), and lastly configure and install Apache (www.apache.org). As far as the path is concerned, we downloaded the packages to the root folder, so we knew where they were. The programs don't actually run from there, just compiled there. When you upgrade PHP, you only need to reconfigure and install PHP and Apache.
