Something to watch out for when testing like that is
the quality of your receiving email server. I can test email myself
at yahoo 500 times, but it's not the same performance as emailing
500 users, all with different quality mail servers (slow, bad addresses, etc).
A good workaround is to use sendmail to queue up the mails first.
Sendmail 8.10 offers multiple queues - we queue up 9000 emails
in under 15 minutes, and the multiple queues handle the delivery
when they can. Typically, our emails are all delivered within 45 minutes.
