Memory Leaks

Hi, I have written a php script which will transfer the contents of one table across to another database. It does a few data integrity checks during the transfer as the new (cleaner) table structure contains lookup tables instead of text fields. The script needs to import approx 1 million records but gradually grows in size until the server crashes. I can only seem to process 10,000 records at one time. Is there anyway I can stop the script from slowly chewing up all the memory?
