Perhaps the popen func will work.
If you're using a linux box, lpr will print whatever stdin you feed
it.
$lines = file("file.txt");
$fp = popen( "/usr/bin/lpr", "w" );
while ($line = array_shift($lines))
fputs($fp,$line);
pclose($fp);
