I don't know about NT, but I don't think that you will be able to use /etc/passwd for
auth...
Because for security reasons passwords are stored in /etc/shadow which is only readable by
root. And since the web server doesn't run as roon, or at least it shouldn't, there is no
way to read the passwords. Now... You could always write a wrapper program that could run
as root, but I wouldn't recomend it, potential security risk.
