Hi Jack,
Yeah that wont be a problem, alhtough there could some issues with the
configuration on the web host as opposed to
your local configuration. I used to develop PHP under Win98 but i used
Apache, its was painful process. NT 4 workstation or Win 2k
Pro would be better if you hell bent on developeing under windows. I have an
NT4 workstation(mainly for dreamweaver & homsite)
and linux box. I run PHP/MySQL on both and have had no major problems with
compatability. I do find it easier to make changes to the PHP
cobfiguration under Linux since i only need to recompile PHP to add further
support (GD or MCrypt for example). I dont trust MS web servers anymore have
had way too much trouble with them, Apache is fairly easy to configure but
ya need to read tutorials.
There is an excellent Tutorial on PHP4 on webmonkey by Julie Meloni (Author
of PHP Essentials - if memeory serves).
She details both windows and Unix installs of Apaches and PHP4. The other
option would be to Use Omni Httpd Which install PHP for you
meaps easier than Apache and less of a nightmare than PWS or IIS.
Hope this helps
Steven
