Cookie problem with IE 4

Anybody has any idea as to why a
Setcookie("SESSION", $token, $time)
where $token is an MD5 id and $time a time expression (which exist)
fails silently on IE 4 only? Is there any known bugs / feature I'm
missing?
NOTE: the cookie is in the right place and works flawlessly with NS 4.7
and Mozilla M18 on Linux.
