Getting Started

I just got started to PHP... I'm used to program CGIs in pure C, which gives me lots of limitations such as database access. I'm still having some troubles migrating to the new syntax and variable controls and types. I didn't quite get how to user pointers in PHP. I would like to know if I'll have a lot of trouble migrating, or if my knowledge in C will "really" help me. Another thing, I didn't find anywhere how to process forms in PHP, how do I get the values of fields? Are there any limitations? How is it stored? Where?
