Not quite sure what you mean. You want to run a search engine on your
linux-apache-php4 server? what will it search? a product db? customer db?
will it search websites? If your looking to write something like google
you've got your hands cut out for you. There are allready some great
search engines out there, your entering a stiff market. You've also got
your hands cut out for you when it comes to writing it, you wont exactly
find any "searchengine in a box". If your serious about it then I would
use a google aproche.
sites should be ranked by
-how many people click on them
-how often are they linked to by other high ranking sites.
-whats the caliber of the site (how relevent are the meta keywords
compared to the rest of the site)
