I presume you're talking about there being a lot of IMAP connections
relative to the number of users using your webmail. If that's not the case,
let me know :)
Each page a user visits that retrieves details from the IMAP server will
open a connection to the IMAP server. You need to make sure you're calling
imap_close() at the end of each page, otherwise the sockets may just float
around for a while.
After having done that, unless the number of connections are causing you
some sort of problem, don't worry.
