Thanks, you've been very helpful to my problem.
I appreciate that.

Actually, you may find the opposite, depending on how funky they wrote their
SQL... There are a *LOT* of features in MS-SQL that simply aren't available
in MySQL, and quite a few that aren't in PostgreSQL either...
You can use PHP with MS-SQL, you know...
So you can convert in two stages: ASP -> PHP first and MS-SQL -> ???
second.
If the SQL is really hardcore or you need failover replication on the
database, you may need to consider Oracle/Sybase/Informix/DB2. MS-SQL
server is really more in that league (just comparing feature-set folks) than
in the MySQL/PostgreSQL league.

The OpenSource product asp2php (search the 'Net) will convert the bulk of
the ASP scripts -- You'll still have a lot of hand-fixing, but most of the
syntax will be converted. The dumber the ASP hackers were, and the more
code they had written for them by automated tools, the better asp2php will
do at it, probably.

I don't think ASP for Linux is stable at all -- Like, even less stable than
ASP on NT, if you can imagine that...

You'll probably be okay on *most* of the ASP -- It's mostly just BASIC code
doing the same stuff PHP does. (For the record, PHP pre-dates ASP...)
There will probably be some goofy things that you'll have to read about on
ASP forums to figure out what they were trying to do, and then do it the
right way in PHP.
