LEGAL ISSUE IN THE UK : Monitoring traffic on a hub can be ilegal depending
on the use of the network etc etc (monitor but don't look). Boring but worth
remembering.

Ok, let me rephrase this question:
I need to write a program to monitor network packets. The OS is Linux.
In
this specific case I'll be monitoring packet traffic on a hub, but I'd like
to
do it in a more general fashion, just in case the unthinkable happens, and
someone changes their mind. :) How would I go about getting started with
this?
