I'm confused on what you're trying to do. Are you trying to: 1) have people sit at their computer and do data entry through a web browser accessing forms on your server that feeds the input to the mysql database.... -OR- 2) setup a program that will run the end-user's workstation, prompt them for questions, collect the information, and store it in a format that you can later dump into the mysql database? #1 is the preferred solution. As for #2.... you'd need to learn an additional programming language, program a stand alone program that prompts for data and then stores it into a data file you could somehow collect, transfer to the database server and import into mysql.... There are a wide range of solutions that could do this for you. The easiest would be something like dbase/clipper, fox pro, access, etc. hope that helps At 05:35 PM 6/29/2000 -0500, you wrote:

Well.. Maybe I'm closer. I don't want a user interface/interaction. Ideally, the unix user would invoke something like this: doit field1,field2,field3..... and the result would be 42 Which would mean something to the user. Two rules I can't break: The user can't see the data in the database, or convince the tool to give it to him. The user can't see/alter the algorithms. What I want to achieve is a total no-gui interface to the database, but through the PHP scripts, since I have to have them in place (and in sync with) the gui version. -- www.SpamWhack.com A pre-emptive strike against spam A tornado is a lady whose skirts you do NOT want to look up!
