Having struggled with ImageMagick under SPARC/Solaris for the past
months, I can testify that the old netpbm package, based on Jef
Pozkanzer's pbm toolkit, is generally far superior on that platform --
lots of excellent small filters that allow you to do virtually any image
manipulation you would want to do. ImageMagick is difficult to install,
large and monolithic, and we never have managed to get it fully working.
